Ekaa films Pvt Ltd. was set up by filmmaker Madhureeta Anand. The company was set up to produce films of high quality for International and Domestic Channels and agencies. Since its inception the turnover and scale of projects handled has steadily increased.
The genesis of Ekaa Films lies in producing Documentary and Short Films for International channels such as Channel 4, Discovery, National Geographic, BBC and Austrian Television Channel - ORF.
Subsequently the Company has produced A Feature Film, Music Videos, Fiction Short Films and a series of Installations for the Aichi Japan Expo.
Ekaa Films also runs the only Digital Film Festival in the country. The 0110 Digital Film Festival which took place in conjunction with The British Council, Fame Cinemas and PVR Pictures and had well known filmmakers and actors on its jury.
Ekaa Films Pvt Ltd has executive produced a full length feature film for theatrical release (Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye) and an international television show for Children - The Magic Tent which has Naseeruddin Shah in the lead.
Under its banner, Ekaa films Pvt Ltd, has produced films on subjects ranging from religion, travel, art and culture and social issues. The genres range from Feature Films, documentary, music videos, fiction short films, Corporate films and art installations.
Madhureeta Anand was born in New Delhi. She schooled at The Lawrence School Sanawar in the Simla Hills, and is a sociology major from The Delhi University.
After graduating from Film School, in 1992 she worked with various television companies where she directed films and features for television networks in India and Britain.
In 1995, she formed her own company. Her first independent venture Design Classics of India explored ideas, symbols and objects that originated in the sub continent.
Subsequently she directed many documentary films and series, spanning a variety of genres. Many of her films have been telecast on international channels like BBC, Channel 4, Discovery and National Geographic.
In 2006, she was awarded the Silver Conch at the Mumbai International Film Festival, for her film “Walking On A Moonbeam”.
In 2001 she produced and directed a thirty-minute documentary feature on the Kumbh Mela- In Search of Salvation for the German Telecast Footprint (Austria/Switzerland/ Germany). The Damah Film Festival at Seattle (USA) invited this film on the 11th of October 2001, where it fetched Madhureeta her award for Excellence in Film Making. It was also nominated to the Commonwealth Film Festival (Manchester, U.K.-30th June 2002). She was also the only woman camera director on a crew of directors on Channel 4(UK)'s award winning series The Greatest Show on Earth - The Kumbh Mela (2001). She won the Royal Television Society Craft Award for this series.
Her Documentary “Education A Reality Or a Myth” was nominated at the Zanzibar International Film Festival-2002.
Her film titled Sin was nominated in the Short Film section at The Damah Film Festival at Seattle (USA)-October 2002.
She is also the festival director for the 0110 Digital Film Festival that showcases international digital cinema and art and tours through nine cities in India.
She has written, directed and produced with PVR Pictures, her first full-length feature film titled ‘Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye’ Starring Randeep Hooda, Arbaaz Khan and Raima Sen. The film released on 6th February 2009.
